Integrations & automation
Connecting Shopify to the rest of your business: ERP, PIM, CRM, accounting and the automations that run between them.
A Shopify store rarely stands alone. Stock comes from an ERP or warehouse system, product data from a PIM, customer data flows to a CRM and orders to accounting. How those systems talk to each other decides how much manual work your team does every day.
App, connector or custom integration
For common systems there is usually an app or an existing connector, and that is the fastest route. When the data model is unusual, the volume is high or the logic is specific to your business, a custom integration through Shopify's APIs gives you control over what syncs, when and in which direction.
Decide which system owns what
Every field needs one system that owns it. Stock might live in the ERP, product descriptions in the PIM, prices in either. Settling that up front prevents the classic integration problem: two systems overwriting each other.
Automation
Shopify Flow, Shopify's own automation tool, handles rules inside the store: tagging customers, flagging risky orders, alerting the team when stock runs low. For work across systems, a middleware platform or a custom service takes over. We build integrations as part of our Build work.
- APIAPI stands for application programming interface, a standard way for software systems to talk and share data. Learn how an API empowers modern growth teams.
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM)Customer Relationship Management (CRM) centralises customer data, aligns sales and marketing, and drives predictable growth for B2B and e-commerce teams.
Questions
What people ask about this topic.
In most cases, yes. Many ERPs have a Shopify connector or app; for others, a custom integration through Shopify's APIs syncs products, stock, orders and customers.
An app is built for many stores and covers common needs quickly. A custom integration is built for your systems and logic, and is the better choice when your data or processes do not fit the standard.
Rules inside Shopify: tagging orders and customers, hiding or showing products, notifying your team, and triggering actions in connected apps when something happens in the store.
